Bylaws

Members must be aware of the Association’s BYLAWS and abide by these at all times. The Committee will not hesitate to discipline a member who transgresses the BYLAWS! All members are expected to be familiar with the following BYLAWS.

SECTION A: FISHING BYLAWS

PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE, OUR FISH ARE TOO VALUABLE TO BE CAUGHT ONLY ONCE!

  1. There have been instances where a member has booked a venue, only to find another member present who has not booked the venue. This behaviour is totally unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action. All waters MUST be booked through Poppie at 083 290 1962 or poppiehta@gmail.com. No exceptions will be made, if you are fishing a water and Poppie does not know about it you are deemed to be poaching.
  2. Members must be in good standing before fishing on any water controlled by the HTA. i.e. annual subscriptions are up to date, there is no pending disciplinary action against the member etc. Members who are not in good standing may not, under any circumstances, fish waters or use any facilities under the jurisdiction of the HTA.
  3. Members must have their membership cards on them at all times when fishing on HTA waters.
  4. Guests must be in possession of a valid, up to date permit, to fish with a member. No guests may fish alone on any water controlled by the HTA. Non-members found fishing without the required permits will be charged with poaching.
  5. A member may not have more than two fly fishing rods in hand when fishing any HTA water, only one of which may be used at a time.
  6. All members are expected to use artificial (non spinning) flies when angling for trout on HTA waters except on Stanford Lake where spinning tackle is allowed (see rule 11).
  7. Fishing on Ebenezer Dam is open to the public and fly, spinning and bait fishing is allowed.
  8. Members fishing in the forestry areas must vacate the forests before dark.
  9. Season and bag limits: All waters – two (2) Rainbow Trout per day unless otherwise specified at the venue. No Brown Trout may be kept. The rivers may be closed at certain times of the year to protect the spawning fish. The river above Dap Naude Dam, between the bridge and its source, is closed to fishing all year.
  10. Members may book a maximum of two (2) venues per day per member.
  11. Stanford Lake; only members accompanied by their guests. Maximum of six(6) rods allowed at a time, one of which must be a member. Spinning tackle is allowed when members and their guests are targetting Largemouth Black Bass, no treble hooks, only single hooks.
  12. Lakeside; only members accompanied by their guests. Maximum of six (6) rods allowed at a time, one of which must be a member. Only fly fishing, no spinning.
  13. Rondefontein; only members accompanied by their guests. Maximum of six (6) rods allowed at a time, one of which must be a member. Only fly fishing, no spinning.
  14. Dap Naude; only members accompanied by their guests. Maximum of six (6) rods allowed at a time, one of which must be a member.
  15. All other venues; stillwaters and streams, only members accompanied by their guests. Maximum of three (3) rods allowed at a time, one of which must be a member.
  16. Fires and littering are not permitted in fishing areas. Fires may only be lit in official fire places.
  17. Dogs are not permitted in the fishing areas or at the Iron Crown Club.
  18. Angling in “The Gully” opposite the hatchery is restricted to fly fishing only. No motor boats allowed past the cable into “The Gully”. A maximum of three (3) craft – canoes, float tubes, kayaks, kick boats, are allowed into “The Gully” at any one time.
  19. Row boats, canoes, kayaks and float tubes are allowed at the following venues: Dap Naude Dam, Stanford Lake, Lakeside, Rondefontein, Dodington’s Weir.
  20. No boats or any watercraft allowed at Diepgelegen. Do not picnic or use the owner’s lapa. you may only use the jetty. This is a sensitive venue.
  21. Club boats are used at “own risk”. Motors may not be used on club boats except on the large aluminium boat at the club. Electric motors are permitted on Dap provided that they are not used for trolling.
  22. Members are encouraged to practice catch and release.
  23. Members are to please read the by-laws posted at the different venues as the Committee does adjust rulings from time to time depending on circumstances and conditions.

SECTION B: THE IRON CROWN CLUB BY-LAWS

  1. The hatchery and jetty are out of bounds at all times to unauthorised persons. The jetty is not to be used for swimming, sunbathing or boating. Boats are not permitted past the cable into the Gully.
  2. Fly fishing is allowed in Ebenezer from the club premises, however, no bait or lure fishing is allowed.
  3. Members are expected to keep the facilities clean and tidy at all times.
  4. Fires may only be made in the fire places provided.
  5. No loud music unless authorised by the Committee.
  6. No dogs are allowed at the Iron Crown or at any waters controlled by the HTA.
  7. The Clubhouse is for the benefit of all members and shall not be used as sleeping quarters.
  8. The deep freeze is for preserving perishables. Liquor and cold drinks may not be placed in the freezer.
  9. Accommodation must be reserved through Poppie at at 083 290 1962 or club@htatrout.co.za. Members who have booked accommodation shall have prior claim. To avoid unpleasantness please do not use the accommodation without booking.
  10. Furniture allocated to each rondawel may not be removed without the permission of the Committee.
  11. Members shall be entitled to a maximum of four adult fishing guests (plus their direct family) at any one time.
  12. Members may book the whole club for occasions so long as the booking dates do not fall over holiday periods or times when the club has organized an event. Please contact Poppie for more details.
  13. Non-members shall not be allowed to use the Iron Crown Club unless accompanied by a member or, the Committee has granted the non-member/s permission to do so.
  14. Members who do not take up bookings or who do not cancel bookings for accommodation in good time (the week before the first day of the reservation) and do not have a rock solid excuse may be liable to a fee of R350,00 per day or per booking.
  15. Members may launch power boats from the premises using the concrete slipway in front of the clubhouse. All power boats operating from the premises must have the necessary permits and licenses as required by legislation to pilot and operate such vessels. A launching fee must be paid to Johannes on arrival at the club. No power boating in the Gully. No water skiing off the perimeter of the club’s premises. Please consider other members and their guests who may be staying at the club when using power boats.
  16. No Jet skis allowed on the club’s premises, including the waterfront.
  17. No cars, power boats, trailers or camping on the roadway in front of the club house unless authorised by the Committee. There is parking on the upper terrace above the ablution block.
